In 1961 Blanc lay in a coma at UCLA Medical Center after a car accident that nearly took his life. Each day while Mel was unconscious, his doctor would drop by his room and ask how he was doing. Mel never responded. One day, the doctor got a crazy idea – he instead addressed Mel as his most famous cartoon character, saying, “Hey, Bugs Bunny!
