Cinespia Salon: JIB KIDDER Live

Undiscovered genius. We thought the term vanished in an age where something can be a worldwide phenomenon just hours after it is made and posted. A brilliant homegrown artist who remains unknown seems unheard of. This is why Cinespia’s excitement about Jib Kidder is at a fever pitch!

First, we heard his awesome new album IV: beautiful, melodic and soaring, but also rocking, driving and rad. Minds blown!
THEN we discovered that he had made videos for all eleven of his songs on IV, we were FLOORED. The videos are found-footage collages of everything from vintage commercials to home video, hilarious, strange, poignant and incredibly entertaining.

Then we find out that JK had been making music and video art for YEARS. We found out that he had 13 albums out and literally dozens of incredible, genius videos. Our jaws hit the floor.

Luckily Jib Kidder likes us too and is heading out to California for a rare live performance just for us. The Spanish Patio will be open with free snacks and a beer and wine bar and DJ CARLOS NINO spins rare and beautiful wax.

The Royal Tenenbaums

Just in time for Christmas. Cinespia presents a one-night-only screening of The Royal Tennenbaums in this historic jewel box theater in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Built in 1913, the interior of The Palace is full of lush colors, enormous murals and gorgeous ornate decoration, a setting perfect for a holiday screening.

Wes Anderson’s film is a modern classic. The Tenenbaum children are extraordinary, each with a unique genius of some kind, but their father moves out to live a frivolous life far from his family. Now, 22 years later, he returns, can they become a family again? Starring Anjelica Huston, Gene Hackman, Ben Stiller, Gwenyth Paltrow, Bill Murray, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson and Danny Glover. Projected in beautiful 35mm film.

DJ Derek James spins before the movie.

CINESPIA SALON: Laraaji live in concert

Co-presented by dublab and ethereal sequence

Discovered by BRIAN ENO in the late-’70s — found with his eyes closed and absorbed in the vibrations of his electric zither in Washington Square Park — LARAAJI is forever true to his own musical vision of timeless peace. Neither outsider nor insider, he is an everysider and friend to everyone.

Joined by collaborator Arji Oceananda, Laraaji will share his luminous, pulsating sounds and infectious spirit live in concert. Also included is a program of ultra-rare new age video art selected by Douglas Mcgowan.

DJ CARLOS NIÑO spins records at intermission with hot tea and snacks on the patio.

THE CRAFT

Co presented by Cinefamily

Starring Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk and Rachel True. Campy, catty and delirious,  The Craft is a 90s supernatural classic. The new girl at a catholic high school falls in with a trio of girls who practice witchcraft. With love spells, hexs and summonings, at first they use their powers to right the wrongs of the school bullies, but how long before THEY become the mean girls? Will their powers become deadly? The Craft is a blast, watch it with us under the stars for this one-night-only Halloween screening.

DJ Jimi Hey spins before and after the screening

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON

Must be 21+ to attend, valid ID must be present upon entry.

Join us in the cemetery under the full moon for the classic 80s horror masterpiece from director John Landis (Animal House, Thriller).

A young American backpacking in England might be becoming a werewolf, and a beautiful nurse tries to help him.

Wild dream sequences, creature effects, and stark, spooky camerawork make for a remarkably eerie mood. Landis masterfully weaves biting suspense and horrifying gore with a dry sense of humor, a combination that makes this one of the most fun, and scary, horror films of all times.

DJs Turquoise Wisdom and Elijah Wood (Wisdom Wood) spin before and after the screening. Part of Spectrefest a city-wide film + music festival.

Newcastle’s Limited Edition Werewolf Blood Red Ale has escaped from Great Britain’s Caledonian Brewery and will be available for all ticket holders. Enjoy The One & Only Newcastle Werewolf Responsibly.
